The Automated Roadmap to Upgrade Rails
The Roadmap to Upgrade Rails is FastRuby.io’s discovery product that helps teams plan and execute their Rails upgrade projects.
We’re happy to introduce an Automated Version of the Roadmap, powered by an AI agent, available completely for free!
Check it out on the Automated Roadmap to Upgrade Rails page and keep reading to learn more about how it works.
How It Works
The Automated Roadmap to Upgrade Rails offers two routes to get your upgrade plan:
Generic Roadmap:
You’ll only need to provide your current and target Rails versions, along with your current Ruby version. We’ll generate a generic upgrade plan based solely on the versions, meaning it will include every deprecation warning issued by Rails in a particular version jump.
This will give you an overall idea of everything that you might need to address as part of the upgrade, but you’ll need to manually filter out the items that don’t apply to your application.
Customized Roadmap:
For a more tailored experience, you can link your GitHub repository to generate a customized upgrade plan.
This option requires you to authenticate with GitHub and authorize access to your repository.
Our AI Agent will then analyze your codebase to identify which deprecations are actually relevant to your application.
We will also provide more fitting links to documentation and guides, making it easier for you to address each item in the plan.
The custom roadmap uses OpenAI models under the hood. We do not keep your data or share it with third parties, and the models used do not learn from your data. We only have access to your codebase during analysis, and we do not store your code or any part of it.
How Does It Compare With the Roadmap to Upgrade Rails?
The key difference is that the automated roadmap is fully automated, and does not have a human expert in the loop.
The Roadmap to Upgrade Rails includes a human expert reviewing and analyzing your codebase, which means it can provide a more accurate and tailored plan. It also includes results from a full static analysis and estimates for the effort required to upgrade.
The Automated Roadmap is a great way to get a quick overview of what your upgrade project might look like, and it’s completely free. However, if you’re looking for a more accurate plan with effort and investment estimates, we recommend the full Roadmap to Upgrade Rails service.
